All Aboard for a Mini Writing Retreat on a Private Historic Railcar!
In partnership with the Santa Fe International Literary Festival, join us for the second annual “Writing on the Rails” on the evening of Thursday, May 14th. Last year’s event was a sold out hit and this year promises to be just as amazing. This year’s mini-writing retreat will be co-hosted by Albuquerque’s inaugural poet laureate, Hakim Bellamy and Logan Phillips, a poet and cultural worker based in Tucson, Arizona fresh off the release of his new book RECKON.
Riders will experience the gift of dedicated time and space to write, discuss, and share prose and poetry, led by Hakim’s and Logan’s writing prompts and inspired by breathtaking scenery as the train travels through a high desert sunset. This is your chance to meet fellow writers and contribute your own literary voice to the conversations happening throughout the Literary Festival community.
Passengers should pack their favorite writing gear, whether analog paper and pens or electronic devices. However, please keep in mind this train is a classic model with no electrical outlets or Wi-Fi (all the better to keep you in the writing zone).
The train departs and returns to the Santa Fe Depot. Each ticket includes a seat in an enclosed train car and a complimentary champagne welcome as the literary adventure begins. Additional snacks and drinks can be purchased.
A TOP-RATED TRAIN RIDE EXCURSION
Our gang of long time friends really enjoyed the sunset tour on a fun vintage train. It was relaxing and the scenery was typically New Mexican, gorgeous. We stood outside on the open air car for most of the ride on a beautiful late afternoon. Would definitely do this again.

Each car has a different theme to it, from history to sunset serenade to a Prohibition-era speakeasy to stargazing. The staff is really fantastic, and each car has musical talent. Bonus: all of the train scenes filmed in "Oppenheimer" were filmed on Sky Railway.

The nostalgic Acoma car made for an interesting trip; the staff was pleasant and attentive. Nice to also discover that Sky Railway supports local musicians, wineries and breweries on their trips. Would definitely try some of their other excursions if back in Santa Fe.

We chartered a train for an event. It was a short moment in time that I will never forget. It was wonderful. Our family and friends enjoyed it so much. Awesome staff. I recommend anyone to do this, well worth it. That New Mexico sky is something special!

Our family took Sky Rail Stargazer ride. It was super fun and the lecture on the planets and stars was so interesting. Shout out to Zoe Romero for amazing service and tasty cocktails! We had a super fun time. All the staff was amazing and super friendly.

It was so magical, like a couple hours were everything else goes away. Service amazing! And music performer even better! We don't have plans to return to Santa Fe anytime soon, but this was the best part of our vacation. If we did return I would do it again.
